Viva Sleep & Fatigue

Viva Sleep & Fatigue is a primary-care program in Doral for adults with difficulty sleeping, loud snoring, daytime sleepiness, or lasting fatigue, including after a viral illness. Your provider reviews sleep timing, caffeine, work shifts, medicines, and daily function, and performs a focused exam.

About this program

Selected blood-sugar testing may help explain fatigue. Confirm test availability, sampling location, assay suitability, and cost before nonurgent testing; outside laboratory coordination may be needed. Iron and thyroid testing may require an outside laboratory.

Structured cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) is first-line care for chronic insomnia. Sleep-habit education supports it but does not replace it. Access to CBT-I is coordinated with an outside provider.

Short-term sleep aids may be considered selectively after reviewing first-line care, benefits, and risks. Suspected sleep apnea may require an outside home test or sleep study before treatment is selected. Post-viral care considers other causes, symptom changes, and safe pacing, including symptoms that worsen after exertion.

Follow-up reviews results, daily function, and whether the plan needs to change. Ask who will review outside results and when to reassess. Some follow-ups may use telehealth; examinations and testing require the appropriate in-person setting.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my sleep trouble is insomnia?

Chronic insomnia commonly means sleep difficulty at least three nights weekly for three months with daytime impairment. Your provider reviews sleep patterns, conditions, and medicines before identifying a cause.

Will I get a prescription for sleep medicine?

Structured CBT-I is the first-line treatment for chronic insomnia; sleep-habit advice alone is not a substitute. Access is coordinated outside. Medicine may be considered selectively after reviewing response, risks, and preferences. Discuss next-day drowsiness, falls, interactions, and the planned duration. Tell your provider about all sleep products you take.

Is loud snoring a problem?

Sometimes. Loud snoring with gasping, choking, or pauses in breathing, plus daytime sleepiness, can point to sleep apnea, a condition linked to high blood pressure and heart problems. Your provider asks about these signs and, if needed, coordinates a home sleep test or sleep study. If you have ever dozed off while driving, stop driving drowsy and book a visit promptly.

Does Viva have a sleep lab?

Viva does not operate a sleep laboratory. Indicated home tests or overnight studies require outside coordination. Confirm access, cost, result ownership, and follow-up before nonurgent testing. Treatment depends on diagnosis and individual findings.

Why am I tired all the time?

Fatigue can relate to sleep, low iron, thyroid or blood-sugar changes, medicines, or post-infection recovery. Testing should answer an individual question. Confirm A1C method, sampling location, availability, and cost before nonurgent testing; a webpage listing does not prove assay suitability. Iron or thyroid testing may require outside coordination.

I am still exhausted months after COVID-19. Can you help?

Yes. Lasting symptoms after COVID-19 or another viral illness are real and can affect daily life. Your provider checks for other medical causes, reviews your sleep and activity, and helps you plan safe pacing so effort does not trigger a crash afterward. Follow-up visits track your function over time, and referrals depend on your specific findings.

Urgent symptoms

  • Chest pain or pressure
  • Fainting or nearly fainting
  • Severe shortness of breath, or lips or face turning blue

When we refer

Viva providers handle insomnia care, sleep-apnea risk checks, and fatigue evaluation in primary care. Viva does not operate a sleep laboratory: sleep testing is coordinated with an outside provider, and apnea treatment begins only after a diagnosis. Complex sleep disorders, such as sudden sleep attacks or unusual movements during sleep, are referred to sleep-medicine experts. For tiredness after a viral illness, referrals follow your exam findings and daily needs, not a single explanation for everyone.
